You can hardly talk about chimpanzees without involving Kibale National Park, also known as the primate capital of the world. We recently visited ‘Kibale’ as part of our team building activity and even caught a glimpse of the Chimps! On that note, we are more than happy to share a bit about primates with our guests.
‘Kibale’ has so far recorded 13 of the 20 primate species recorded in Uganda; which is why you might have already heard that it has the highest density of primates. As many primates as you may find here, the primates are always either diurnal or nocturnal.
Diurnal primates are those we get to see during the day including; the Grey cheeked mangabee, the black and white colobus monkey, and 7 other species. On the other hand are 4 nocturnal primates species include; Thomas’ galago, the Boss man portal and bush babies. We only get to see these at night.
At Kibale, they’ve also recorded one of the world’s smallest primate species, the Demidoff’s Galago; weighing only about 60g and fitting within 120mm. It comes second to the 30g Pygmy Mouse Lemur recently discovered in South Africa. To exhibit all these, ‘Kibale’ offers night and day activities for both local and international tourists through us, as well as other registered tour operators.
Furthermore, you can expect (while trying a French pressed coffee at their cafè) to also learn about the flora in the 795 sq. km of ‘Kibale,’ large mammals, hippos, buffaloes, giant forest hawks and bush pigs. Bird lovers may catch any of the 332 bird species so far recorded at ‘Kibale’; the famous one being the Green Crested Peter.
