Fort Portal is your perfect base for exploring all highlights of Western Uganda. The famous Rwenzori Mountains, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semliki National Park, the East African Rift Valley and the Kibale Forest National Park(Primate Capital of the World) chimpanzees are in close distance to Fort Portal. The RuwenZori View Guesthouse

RuwenZori View Guesthouse was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence (2018) and is our main partner for accommodation in Fort Portal. The guest house was started in 1997 by a Dutch/English couple and has provided guests from all over the world with great service since then. The food there is probably the best you can get in Fort Portal (try their cheese pancakes).

Kigere Lakeside Campsite

Kigere Lakeside Cottage & Campsite is located in a big green garden between the shores of Lake Kigere and Lake Nyabikere; 7 kilometers north from Fort Portal. The campsite is the perfect place for a family to enjoy nature, lake views and hikes in the mountainous landscapes. It has two bedrooms, three double beds and an additional mattress.

Camping facilities are also available here. There are many attractions and Kabarole Tours & Safaris arranges different activities in which you could engage while you’re there. You could choose from our mountain biking tours, go bird-watching or take one of our Crater Lakes Exploration tours.

All this while, you’ll be seeing the Rwenzori Mountain ranges at a reasonable altitude and you could visit Mountains of the Moon University; named after the ranges. Lastly, you may also want to swim safely in Lake Kigere.

Isunga Lodge

Isunga Lodge is located on the edge of Kibale Forest National Park 30 kilometers from Fort Portal. The lodge sits on an elevated position, with magnificent views of the rain forest, the majestic peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains and all the way to Queen Elizabeth and Lake George. The surrounding area is defined by over 50 crater lakes around.

The lodge is run by the Scottish couple Gerard and Karen and first opened its doors in late 2016.

Fort-Heights Homestay is you home away from home. Recently opened it has the highest standard of comfort and style. Just a 10 minute drive away from the town centre, this place is the perfect house to stay with your family or a group of friends.

Rwenzori Campsite

The Rwenzori Campsite is located approximately 15 km outside of Fort Portal, directly at the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains. It is the perfect base for hiking in the Rwenzoris, you can climb the Karangura Peak or meet the surrounding villages on a community walk and see how they earn their living with pottey, tailoring and coffee growing. The Campsite is community based, which means that the generated income will flow back towards the villages surrounding it.
